![]() Even fanmade tools like Sims4Studio make it a breeze to tag items literally with just checkmarks and apply the tags to all of the palettes of an item. Honestly too, it's not technically burdensome to tag the objects. Why not the decor styles? The time adds up and you need to have the manpower to get the job done, but it's not like every object needs 20 minutes each to be examined and edited. Especially since almost all objects and clothing items in the game are already properly tagged with colors. It's a feature that should have been maintained with every pack that came out, or at the very least they could have rolled out more than support for the feature in the time leading up to DHD.Īnd while a lot of simple-seeming stuff in game development can actually turn out to be really complex.I don't really believe that tagging objects is. Even if the concrete plan to implement it in TS4 was recent, they had to have known it was on the table for a while. Interior design was an active career in TS3. This is not something that should have to be done in the patches following release it's something that they should have been in the process of doing to prepare for DHD. Games do take a lot of time to plan and make, and I'm sure Game Packs aren't made overnight, but that's just all the more reason why they should have had ample time to update the object tags in preparation. It's not hard, it just requires good management. I recognise that décor tagging the other half the items in the game is probably a pain in the ass to do I guess the other requirements like color ease the burden, but the idea of only a couple objects being able to give you credit in certain cases just sounds bad and boring. I passed up on Dream Home Decorator so maybe it's not as hard to work with as it seems, but that just sounds plain ridiculous to work with. But if they're going to release a pack which hinges on you using specific décor and colour tags to please your clients when redecorating - say - their kitchen or their bedroom it might have been nice if more than half or 2/3rds of the stuff we need to use actually had a décor tag. I recognise that décor tagging the other half the items in the game is probably a pain in the ass to do and that certainly there are items which don't require décor tagging. Which was, I guess, a good move on the Sims team's part. Especially when I popped into Create-A-Sim and noticed that the two categories with the least amount of stuff (Shotgun and Double Gallery) are not available to be your sim's favourite décor style. But once I started looking, it kind of amused me. There are other categories where it's more balanced. If we only count each bed once, 66 beds have a décor tag and 36 have none. Of the 102 beds, 10 from Dream Home Decorator are tagged for three separate categories and a handful of other beds are tagged for two different categories. Only half the ovens have any décor tag, only four fridges do. Any cabinets which match the counters also have the appropriate décor tag. Of the 18 kitchen counters: 2 have three décor tags, 1 has two décor tags, 6 have one décor tag and 9 have no décor tag. This shows up in some interesting ways in game.Ĭounters, for example. ![]() Which I think is close enough to half to qualify for 'nearly'. If we remove Dream Home Decorator from the whole picture (which, admittedly, cuts out the only reason most of us are even using the Sims 4 décor styles because, honestly, what even is Shotgun décor? Apparently it's four lights, a postbox, an awning and a coffee table) we have 4351 items and 2689 items with décor tags. But all the items have multiple décor tags to the tune of comprising 336 tagged items spread over Contemporary (111), Cosmolux (45), Mid-Century (89) and Modern (63) with other categories having a few items. ![]() ![]() But there's something important you don't know.ĭream Home Decorator has 136 items. Those of you with better maths skills than me might look at that and think that it's not nearly half. Of those, here are the numbers of items that come up if you search only by décor styles Which tots up to 4487 total items including unlocked reward items but excluding debug and live edit objects (counting counters and sectional sofas as one item). Nearly half of the items in game do not have a décor style assigned to them, the number of items per style is skewed as hell and basically only the items from Dream Home Decorator are competently décor tagged.įor reference I have all the packs with Build&Buy items apart from Journey to Batuu and Bust the Dust. But using it led me to notice something interesting I love Dream Home Decorator, I really do. ![]()
